Cornea and External DiseaseThe cornea is the clear window in the front of the eye. It serves to both transmit and focus light from the outside world onto the retina so that a clear image may be seen. Injury, infection or disease may cause the cornea to become cloudy, decreasing the vision significantly. Vision clarity may be restored through medical treatment, or a corneal transplant may be required in certain conditions.
