CataractCataract is a common condition that is most often associated with aging. The natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy or opaque, causing visual blurring and eventual blindness if untreated. We offer modern cataract surgery to patients whose cataracts are the cause of significant visual loss. This procedure can generally restore patients' vision to normal. All of our ophthalmologists routinely examine patients for cataracts. Should a cataract be present, they will discuss the best plan of care for your situation. Drs. Hudson, and Tseng perform cataract surgery using small incision technique (usually no stitch). This surgery includes the implantation of an intraocular lens, which allows for essentially normal vision without the need for special cataract glasses or contact lenses. Drs. Hudson and Tseng may also combine cataract surgery with glaucoma surgery when necessary. Our doctors perform cataract surgery at Alton Memorial Hospital as well as St. Anthony's Hospital on an out-patient basis. Patients generally return to normal activity within a day or so after surgery. For more information on cataracts click here: Cataracts |
